Facebook Business Page FAQ
Got Questions? Here are some frequently asked questions about Facebook Pages for regional businesses:
Facebook Pages FAQ
Q: Why is a Page different than a Profile? Profiles are for individuals, Pages are for businesses and organizations. With Pages, Facebook provides customization tools for all kinds of business categories.
Q: Do I need to be a Facebook user to have a Page? To be an administrator (editor) or view a Page you need to be a registered user. However, if you don’t want to use Facebook personally you can register but keep your Profile hidden. We can help you set this up.
Q: What is the difference between Groups and Pages on Facebook? Groups are generally for subject matter interest groups and anyone may join and participate. Pages are business information and communication tools. People who Like a Page may comment on posts (if you choose to enable this) but may not add content. You can restrict commenting though we generally do not recommend this.
Q: Can I focus on my local customers? Facebook uses your location to help target searches related to your business sector. So if someone searches Facebook for plumbers in Rochester and you are one, your Page should come up. Facebook ads can also be targeted by geographical location so you can limit your ad exposure and cost to an area.
Q: Can I block individual users from seeing my Page? Yes. But this gets you into the territory of reputation management and censorship which is a touchy area in social media. Again, we provide advice on effectively communicating with users, even negative ones (especially negative ones!).
Q: I see ads on Facebook? Is that something I should be interested in? For many businesses the answer is yes. They offer highly targeted ad buys that are completely measurable for return on investment. We recommend starting with a Page, building an initial base of Friends and then testing ads to build your list. We can set up and monitor these ads for you.
Q: Can I sell stuff on my Facebook Page? Facebook offers an extensive list of third party plug-ins that include many e-commerce options.
Q: Can I send event invitations with Facebook? Events are one of the most powerful free functions of Facebook. For example, Good Luck occasionally hosts themed dinner parties. By sending invites via Facebook they have no need to advertise these events.
Q: What is the Timeline thing? Timeline is a new way of viewing a Profile or Business Page’s information, that Facebook is rolling out in March 2012. It aggregates your content (photos, posts, links, video, etc.) chronologically to give a visitor a snapshot ‘bio’ of your interests and history. It is exciting for Business Pages because they now enable a cover image that is a banner for your business. Used with taste, this can make your Page and organization stand out.
Q: Why should we use your service instead of doing it ourselves? We set you up, create great content about your business, optimize the Page for your audience and most important, assure a steady stream of valuable new content is posted weekly. We also provide you with stats and can set up Facebook Ad campaigns for you. And we will train your people on Facebook etiquette and how to handle complaints and negative comments.
